By the way there is a poll running in the Sky Business news section about the likelihood of a crash. Its about 50/50 at the moment.

RHP impressive new site, much clearer than the housepricchat forum and i like the pink colour scheme. If you don't mind me asking what software are you using?

Is there any way to reverse the order of posts so the most recent is at the top? like the FT forum was/is.

Hope its a succes

Hello everyone. I am afraid I have been forced to conjure up this fiendishly clever pseudonym as real names are not allowed.

Do hope that most ex-Ft'ers will surface soon here.

Haven't seen detailed report yet but NIESR have just concluded that UK housing prices are unstable and that there will be an adjustment - but can't find it on their website quite yet!

Interesting articles in many places this week regarding growing costs of Pensions to both countries and companies.

Bloomberg's New York property tax at 16% (set up recently to help massive budget deficit) while helping them avoid bankruptcy will not, it is reported , be enough to stem rising pension commitments thus more taxes -and hey presto less consumption.

Japan is having best time for some years - lowest unemployment BUT still people are spending less - why - they are saving more! They are worried like everyone will be very soon. Pension shortfalls will be trigger to many years of falling consumption in a World of seemingly compulsive over-capacity. Have you read about China yet!

That's a start for me on macro issues that will affect UK house prices, as has been said before - "Be careful not to miss the Tsunami while watching ripples on the pond" - or was it the pool?

Mike

Thanks DorothyK - I will do some investigating.

Looks like a few of the FT regulars have already found their way here. I've been an avid reader of the FT forum for about 18 months now (with the occasional post) and am hoping to continue my education here!

To avoid the possiblity of legal interactions with FT, you might want to check out the legal status of the archive posts. They legally own them, and can create problems for this site if they would choose to do so. I would hate to see that happen. Work with goodwill if you don't want to stir the beast. I'm glad to see this here, myself.

Thanks UH!

Unfortunately I only found out yesterday that the FT Forum was being reformatted, so this has been knocked up in under 24 hours so some parts of the site haven't been written yet! - and if you notice any problems, please let me know.

I hope so too - I can see where the confusion has arisen - but I am actually the old TafkaRHP - renamed from Red Hot Pawn, after a certain Red Hot Prawn starting playing games with me a few months ago!!

I agree about the strange behaviour lately. I remember The Scream (I think) saying something last year about how if you really believed there was no bubble, why would you deny it? It is like saying "There is no danger of an asteroid crashing into Earth tommorow" - not worth mentioning.

Recently so many people seem to have come out of the woodwork to deny the existence of a bubble that it has made me feel that something is happening.

As the Cisco Kid said yesterday...

"I think we've reached to top of the rollercoaster, we're precariously looking over the edge of the ride in front of us and we can slowly feel the weight of the car pulling us forward. Just how deep the ride will take us, who knows, but I can certainly feel the wheels egding forward and I'm hanging on tight."

First! (or second)

Anyway, I felel that in the last few weeks, the profile and behaviour of the housing market leads to an almost tangible feeling that something is going to have to give.

April's behaviour was almost predictable in that there was an accelleration of growth, and everything that I have been reading suggests that just before a bubble, this is exactly whato occurs.

Here's hoping

Hi All!,

Hopefully some of you reading this will be some of the past regulars from the Financial Times property forum, on which I have been posting - but mostly reading, for the past 11 months.

The FT forum is changing to a format where the FT site editors choose a selection of posts to publish, rather than simply posting all submissions.

As I prefer a more free-flowing discussion, I have launched this site in the hope that we can get some chat going here.
