Sonia Gandhi is now the foreign born leader of the worlds largest democracy. Quite a feat for a nation to elect somebody from outside to be Numero Ono!
I can't imagine another country doing so. |

SpaceShipOne just flew to 212,000 feet.... (41 miles) Rutan is getting closer to a private space ship. NASA considers 50 miles (9 more) to make one an astronaut!

If they are surface bugs...
Try spraying soap and water all over the fir drenching it. Use green dishwashing liquid and either a hose based or pump sprayer. It make work as bugs need their surface tension to do everything and soap destroys it.
Its lots cheaper and safer then the chemicals so try it first. Then get nasty if it doesn't work.

Trebuchet , that's a new word for me 3dc, if I ever get on a quiz programme and they ask the question I shall know the answer!
The experts do not recognise my fir tree bugs, they told me to use a systemic bug killer at double strength.
One guy's answer was to cut the tree down!
So it's war with the bugs. i could always try bombarding them with a home made trebuchet! |

Look what happens when people just have too much time on their hands:
home made TREBUCHETs
Perhaps the armpit should set up a drinking fest with these folks. Look at their videos. They even get hit with their own watermelons.
Consider the dangers here...
too much booze
a desert
an ancient but improved siege engine
shotguns
more beer...
Actually, if they don't kill themselves it looks like fun.
I was kind of hoping that the "To Ride A Trebuchet." link existed and had video. Seems something like that is just begging.... for the DARWIN AWARD.

My fir tree has been invaded by some strange insect that is multiplying and devouring the foliage. Millions of them, I am sure they could devour an entire forest in weeks.
I am off to get some expert opinion and whatever is necessary to eradicate the little monsters. Perhaps my neighbour has introduced the tree devouring insect to increase the sunshine in his garden!
The strange thing is that they are only on one tree and nothing else !
So have I discovered an answer to the conifer problem of neighbours?
Bugs for sale anyone? |

This has me very concerned:
From the UK's Medical News Today (and in all the major press):
[Today Dr John Reid, the Health Secretary for the United Kingdom (UK), announced the reclassification of statins as 'over the counter' products in the UK, to be available to members of the public directly from pharmacists without the need for a prescription. With this move, recently approved by the UK's Committee on Safety of Medicines, the UK is the first country to move a statin from prescription-only to over the counter access.][...]
ESC highlights need for screening and global risk management as statins move over the counter in UK
(The ESC comprises 47 National Societies of Cardiology, representing more than 40,000 cardiology professionals across central and greater Europe.)
FT reports story:
[The UK has became the first country in the world to allow statins, the cholesterol-lowering drugs, to be sold over the counter in pharmacies without the need for a prescription.
The controversial decision, which could create a multi-billion pound market for the drug, split the medical profession. John Reid, health secretary, said the decision extended patient choice, but the Consumers' Association accused him of using the public "as a guinea pig".][...]
Heart drug cleared for sale over counter
The Scotsman reports:
[DOCTORS expressed concern yesterday after the government announced that a cholesterol-lowering drug will be sold over the counter.
The move was also condemned by the Consumer Association as "tantamount to using the UK public as guinea pigs". ]
Outcry over open sales of cholesterol medication
It's still questionable that Aspirin is a net plus ferom being so freely available. This is chilling...and I'm kept alive on drugs, so I'm not being Mr Natural on this. More later... |

From today's slahdot:
Freecache from the Internet Archive aims to bring easy to use distributed web caching to everyone. If you've a file that you think will be popular, but far too popular for your isp's bandwidth limits, you can just serve it as
http://freecache.org/http://your.site/yourfile
instead of the traditional
http://your.site/yourfile
and Freecache will do all the heavy lifting for you. Plus your users get the advantage of swiftly pulling the file from a nearby cache rather than it creeping off your overloaded webserver."
So if you just have the cheap dial up line and want to sever something...
Start a web sever
access it as:
http://freecache.org/http://your.site/yourfile
go to every page you created with that link.
You are now cached for awhile so...
Turn off your web server and give the freecache link to a friend. It should last awhile. |

Contact with Felipe!
Just received an eml, as I sent a note last night using the url that Novice provided:
[Hi Saines
I just received an invitation to participate but probably will not write as
much as I used. It takes time and effort to write, and with a limited number of
participants everyone knew beforehand the opinions of all the others.
Nevertheless the idea is fantastic, one just needs reading newspapers from
different countries to see very distinct concerns. If one, for instance,
compares the main Brazilian financial paper, Gazeta Mercantil, with the FT
there are very few points of contact on the main news. There is space for a
Virtual World Financial Times with World Virtual Forums... Nevertheless
bridging this gap is well beyond my intelectual capability even if physicists
are a know-it-all type of people!
Cheers, Felipe] |

Thanks monitor CM.
Judging from someone I know who just closed an internet perfume shop, (orders came in but no profit margin to meet cost), the commercial T1 line would cost you around $700 USD a month at the current availability in many areas. Your site seems relatively fast with my DSL access and without advertising clutter……. It’s not cheap (?) unless you operate on some excess capacity somewhere else….Good luck!....
If things (cash flow) get too tight, perhaps you can ask for a voluntary contribution from members here. For example, little c’s cutting down on the bubbles and babes could save lots of money to fund a better cause (a transfer of energy, sorta….). I’m sure you can then afford to keep the site floating and be self sufficient!.....
