British Sailors and The Media

Should the British Sailors who were held captive in Iran have been allowed to sell their stories to the media? Why did the MOD make an exception in this case? What damage has been done to the reputation of the British armed forces and/or the British government as a result of the events since the Sailors' release?

Women in Victorian England

Not so different I would say. I would also say that most if not all societies go through these sorts of phases of development. To consider such a society backwards in someway is a little hypocritical, since at a point in time we were the same. On would not expect all cultures on earth to develop at the same time. Pushing them too hard to 'catch up' may be counterproductive. After all, the UK was not pressured into changing the ways of Victorian England from the outside. Such changes need to come from within to be truly accepted for the long term.

So, why is it that we push so hard to being these places up to speed and don't let them follow the same course of development that we did. Why not give them more room to develop from internal change ?

Could it just be anything to do with their natural resources and our corporates ?

Do you agree with what I say though ? Are women's rights better in Iran that Victorian England ?

If so, were we a strict Muslim nation at that time then ?

LOL, another Ming "perspective".

I did read that it took the Irish 70 years to get rid of their culture of victimhood (the precursor to the Irish economic "miracle" of liberal economics, high input of EU cash and low tax) and note that a Krontieff long wave cycle is also 60-70 years.

Clearly there is something "going on"

Women's rights in Iran are better than in Victorian England. I'd say there are lagging us by between 50 and 80 years.

No. They should ahve been allowed to tell them only if any money was donated to promoting free speech and womans rights in Iran

Why did the MOD make an exception in this case?
They are incompetent and messed up having abolished the joint services media liason function a few years back

What damage has been done to the reputation of the British armed forces and/or the British government as a result of the events since the Sailor\'s release?

Little damage. Reputations that matter are won on the battlefield. UK soldiers ad sailors continue to set the standard even if they only have two dinghys and a pop gun. Its a people thing you see. like good old Aussies. Decent people make good soldiers.

Medals all round in old Eurp then and a feather in your ars*e as they say in The Netherlands !
