Greetings from little c. Red Hot Pawn asks us to use this particular forum, topic or thread to discuss the format of this site, highlight problems, or indeed, to make suggestions.

Red Hot Pawn launched 'Serious Topics' nine years ago today. If I may quote MonitorCM's opening post from 'House Price Chat' directly (30 Apr '04 11:27 : 1 rec):

"Hi All!,

Hopefully some of you reading this will be some of the past regulars from the Financial Times property forum, on which I have been posting - but mostly reading, for the past 11 months.

The FT forum is changing to a format where the FT site editors choose a selection of posts to publish, rather than simply posting all submissions.

As I prefer a more free-flowing discussion, I have launched this site in the hope that we can get some chat going here."

We cannot but agree! More than nine years later, unanimity has finally been achieved here in 'Site Comments'. I propose some toast: to MonitorCM, Red Hot Pawn and 'Serious Topics'. Three cheers from little c, Big C and the legendary bb (Tuesday afternoon tea)!

Good morning, cynic 09. I trust that you had an enjoyable weekend! Out of interest, are you going to do any harrowing this spring?

My apologies to Red Hot Pawn.

I missed the more general problem.

Come the dawn, I was out ploughing all day.

Greetings from little c. Red Hot Pawn asks us to use this particular forum, topic or thread to discuss the format of this site, highlight problems, or to make suggestions. I should perhaps comment that yesterday I did experience considerably problems on the world wide web, cynic 09. I could not log into my internet service provider (ISP), BT, nor 'Serious Topics', and quite a lot of data was lost when 'Serious Topics', for example, was re-booted a few hours later. I do not know the precise cause, Kay, but I suspect that cyberwars will become increasingly common over the course of the twenty-first century.

My advice, therefore, would be not to become too dependent upon online activities. They are not necessarily safe nor secure. The internet is potentially a very dangerous place to be! In my opinion, we need to re-learn some of the inescapable face-to-face dimensions of human trust, cynic 09. 'Serious Topics' is an online discussion forum which our distinguished host, Red Hot Pawn, started at 11:27 on 30 April 2004, some nine years ago. Its origins lie in FT Forums, which were eventually abandoned by FT.com and 'The Financial Times', in favour of FT Blogs, which are easier to manage and control.

I have always felt that it is important to anchor virtual reality in the real world, which helps explain why we have had twenty-one 'Serious Topics International Conferences' (STICs) over the years, plus any number of other social events. Moreover, I have gone out of my way to meet as many Serious Topics' posters as possible. I can only assume that those few posters whom I have never met over the past nine years, do not wish to do so, and that is fine with little c. In 2009, Lord Byron was introduced to many of the principal posters of 'Serious Topics' @STIC-10 with this idea in mind. Everyone reading 'Serious Topics' is cordially invited to join Lord Byron through the following link:

Thames Path Meetup

Like Lord Byron, we strive to be the best online discussion forum here on the world wide web, not the largest. Quality may be subjective, but it always trumps quantity. I would rather read one profound posting to a thousand trivial postings, cynic 09, and I should like to take this opportunity to thank you, and everyone reading 'Serious Topics', for taking the trouble to write something really interesting. As for the future, as we all know, confident predictions are, as ever, amongst the most disreputable forms of public utterance. With this in mind, I therefore set the final and ultimate 'Serious Topics International Conference' (STIC-c) for lunch at 13:00 (GMT) on Sunday 6 March 2016.

Join us online, or if you prefer, offline! I suspect that you are already pre-booked, cynic 09?

Clearly I was wrong. I presumed that he was based on the way he appeared to be controlling things. Now I accept I was mistaken. Good! Although I think that LB is an even bigger plonker than little c I have decided to block both posters. LB has always shown complete disdain for the site, simply using it to tell himself that he is a big shot because he drinks coffee in Canary Wharf or trying to scrape together a living by advertising some business site or getting people to pay him a few pounds for going on a walk. He is just a child who has not yet learned to consider anyone else but himself or, in this case, to respect the aims of the site. Little c is clearly just spoiling things because he is bored out of his mind and seems to have no other outlet for his existence.

Greetings from little c. Red Hot Pawn asks us to use this forum, topic or thread to discuss the format of this site, highlight problems, or to make suggestions. What a site, Lord Byron!

Dorney Lake

The principal problem, it seems to me, Red Hot Pawn, is that you never update 'Serious Topics', despite all the suggestions we have made! As a further suggestion, everyone reading 'Serious Topics' is cordially invited for a walk. If you cannot make it in person, for example, if you live on the other side of the world, you can follow the River Thames online:

Thames Path Meetup - windsor to bourne end / maidenhead walk

The real achievement belongs to the outstanding contributions made by all of Serious Topics's posters since 11:27 (GMT) on 30 April 2004! I propose some toast: to Red Hot Pawn, 'Serious Topics' and all of you! Three cheers from little c, Big C and the legendary bb (whatever you are drinking)!

I learn from you, and you have certain contacts and skills that I do not have, combined, we can do some very good operations, I believe.

When playing football, if you have a great team, you can win, even if someone is sent off, very sas.

Good afternoon to you all! Red Hot Pawn asks us all to use this particular forum, topic or thread to discuss the format of this site, highlight problems, or to make suggestions. I should therefore like to take this opportunity to suggest that 'Boom Town' is back, big time, as if it ever went away!

Serious Topics - Boom Town

I should also like to congratulate Red Hot Pawn on making 'Serious Topics' the world's best online discussion forum over more recent years. Of course, it is not just down to Red Hot Pawn. He rarely posts himself!

Greetings from little c. If I may address your question below, zorro, although hardly on behalf of Motty or prudence:

" ... Are you saying Prudence that little c is the owner of the website now?"

I should perhaps clarify, if only for prudence, that Red Hot Pawn has been, is and will always remain the owner of 'Serious Topics'. Of course, as a fellow Londoner, little c has met Red Hot Pawn on numerous occasions over the past decade or so, he is the salt of the earth, and I commend him to everyone reading 'Serious Topics'. I would suggest that if anyone wishes to contact Red Hot Pawn directly online, the email address given in the link below works very well indeed:

Hello Prudence and Motty

The last contact I had with Red Hot Pawn was about 2 months ago when I reported a spammer (someone putting stupid adverts on every thread) and RHP removed them and responded in person. In response to my profuse apologies for bothering him with my request, Red Hot Pawn said that it was not trouble at all to run this site and it did not take him much effort at all.

have not had contact with him since. Are you saying Prudence that little c is the owner of the website now?

Greetings from little c. Newroad sends his regards to everyone reading 'Serious Topics' from Australia today. Margaret River, where he is now and not far from his family home, peaked at 32C today - quite warm for early autumn, even in Western Australia. What about Japan, Motty? Unanimity has once again been achieved here in 'Serious Topics', prudence. Congratulations to all!
