I have created two new topics.
Please note that while a topic has no posts, it is only accessible via the menu on the left.

I’m delighted to find that thoughtful discussion continues here. Thank you Monitor CM for hosting these topics. As with the former FT.com fora, posters here have observations and opinions I respect. While I may post infrequently, I do hope to look in regularly in order to follow the flow of thought. Best wishes to all in this new venue. |

Thoughtful posts:
[BTW. Your guess at my other identity is way out. ]
Hmmmm...one guess down....2,793 left to go!
"Way Out" eh? That's a clue right there...as opposed to saying "Way Off".
I always get a laugh on UK trains and subways with those signs "Way Out" (with arrow pointing).
I can't help myself but to say "Kewl!" North Ams use "Exit" instead of "Way Out". I'm going to have to 'borrow' a "Way Out" sign one of these days to bring back to the Great White North here.
Give me a clue as to your former identity! I do recognize the prose but can't put a tag to it. 'c' perhaps?
I have just received a private eml from Globalist expressing exactly the same point on 'dropping' urls at the FT (and elsewhere). Frankly, that will be up to you folk, as I don't post at the FT any more. It's like visiting an old girl friend for....OK...nuff said. |

S Saines 4 May 17.24.
I agree the FT forums are now stale and dull. The delay in editing makes the whole thing boring and the inability to reply to individual's points of view is frustrating. To spend some time composing a post and then not know if it will be public is demotivating and one doesn't want to waste time so only short posts are appearing.
BTW. Your guess at my other identity is way out.
I am all in favour of the Bush v Kerry topic, how about a similar topic to the old "Nature of the Beast" where we can discuss how we communicate and why.
Keep up the good work CM, we need to publicise the site, we should all try and "slip hints into posts on the FT site" . We can try and get one past the editors, they will soon get bored and less cautious. |

TwoBricks:
Agreed on the UN topics! May I suggest that they be combined, at least for now, due to our presently limited poster base? (Albeit increasing nicely as time goes on)
I'm in for the topic! I'd certainly do some research and posting on that one. You'd have an Ally in the poster known as Choam Nomsky, so immediately that appears to be a well chosen topic with a balance of opinion .
As for Kerry v. Bush...GREAT topic. However, we'd really need a few more Americans to show up here to make it really representative. I can tell you already who the vast majority here would choose! Guess! LOL...that's coz we ain't no Murkans! |

I have added the Bush v Kerry topic.
I will also be happy to add the other two topics shortly. I will do some work here to get some functions in place to allow certain posters to be assigned as moderaters for boards - at the moment these functions do not exist, and so having too many boards running straight away could be difficult for me to keep track of!

Hey, a place where we can go at it hammer and tong, like back in the glory days of the FT discussion forums! Hoooooooo ray.
Can I suggest a couple other topics?
1. UNScam- Is it a real scandal, or a tempest in a teapot? Who's involved? How much money got stolen/diverted? What effect will continuing revelations regarding this scandal have on the legitimacy of an already ailing UN? What effect will it have in Europe, the Middle East, and the US Presidential elections?
2. Bush vs. Kerry- who do you favor, and why?
3. Genocide in Sudan- why is it happening, and why is the UN ignoring it?
Let me know if these topics interest ye..... if necessary, suppose I could lend a hand monitoring this stuff if it goes up. |

I have an admission to make, I supported the FT in revamping their forums. However, I had no idea that they'd blow off all three feet in doing so! The delay in 'editing' is insufferable, and makes as much sense as waiting three days for the 'fresh' bread out of the oven.
Some topics appear to be stumbling along there, notably the Euro Expansion topic, but is dull, predictable and uninspired. No wonder! There's no spark. I would have fully expected there to be a loss by editing, but the FT surely should have realized that measures could be taken to make-up for that.
As much as I'm mostly a neutral observer of the UK Housing Forum, and find it all a tad puzzling as to the 'spark'...that 'spark' is unmistakable! The FT have managed to extinguish it and have some poor sods there now looking for the party that left last week!
I only wish I'd been aware of this site before the curtain came down at the FT to post a url to get here.
If anyone knows how to drop....errr....'hints' at the FT about this site, then it truly would be good to get some of the others here.
What I can tell you is that Agnostic is attending a social meeting in a few weeks with some of the former posters at FT, and I'm sure he will pass the word of the new gospel to them!
That includes the real Hoog (well, as real as he ever was, LOL, I mean v. Hoooog, who is hilarious at times), Zorro, John D French and some others.
Meantime, posters would be well-advised to eml any friends who would be interested in posting here to increase our reader base, as well as poster base.
As to whom Thoughtful is....hmmm...."Zorro"? |

The Ft forums are now pathetic, a few inhibited and selected posts.
I know posts have been edited and only partial posts pubished changing the meaning and intention of the authors.
I see Hoog is posting on this site, come on the others and take up the challenge, what about c and his poetic posts, what about Merlin, what about Scream?
Then again perhaps Scream was one of the reasons for the demiise of the FT!
I enjoyed his posts, then I suspect some will or have changed names!
Perhaps we will reveal our previous identity later or let posters guess.
We need to make the site succeed so how can we encourage the migration of some of the other FT posters?
Any ideas? After all it requires a certain amount of trust in the organisers. |

Would it be possible to have the list of previous posts at the top of the page rather than the bottom ?

Excellent site CM, I thought you deserved some encouragement.
The FT site has changed and I suspect the intention is to edit posts and remove the original meaning and sense. That is in fact happening at present and makes posting something of a waste of time.
I would suggest that you include an "About us" item in the site, so that new and prospective posters understand something of the origins and history of the site.
I hope many past FT posters will start to contribute to the discussions.
Good luck! |
